Gas Prices To Follow Electricity Skywards

ABC.net.au
After a major hike in electricity prices in New South Wales, it appears that gas bills will also rise.

Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has released its draft determination into gas prices.

For AGL, which has the majority of gas customers in New South Wales, a typical annual residential bill will increase from July by $18 dollars and $76 by the year 2013.

The news is worse for Country Energy customers - their bills will rise by a total of 17.5 per cent over three years.

Origin Energy customers will have a total increase of $66 over three years.

The figures do not factor-in a potential Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).

IPART says the CPRS will add a further 75 cents per week to bills by 2013, if it is introduced as planned.

IPART's final report will be released in June.
