The Acting Energy Minister, Troy Buswell, has indicated the government will approve significant increases in electricity prices.
The Economic Regulation Authority is allowing Western Power to increase its distribution and transmission charges by 51 per cent over 3 years.
Those charges will add 14 per cent to household electricity bills this year and another 7 per cent next year.
Mr Buswell says the government has the final say but charges need to rise to reflect the real cost of providing electricity.
