Motorists can expect higher fuel costs in the next few weeks after Australia's wholesale petrol price hit a fresh four-month high of $1.18 per litre.
Commsec says the last time the wholesale petrol price was at this level, motorists were paying about $1.27 per litre.
Commsec chief economist Craig James says the economic recovery throughout Asia is gathering strength, leading to increased demand for oil.
He says Australian fuel costs are rising in line with increases in Singapore gasoline prices.
