There are eco friendly architects. They can help make some changes to your blueprints which will cut down on power usage once the house is built. Simple things like where you place the bedrooms on a block of land can dramatically save you money on heating and cooling costs.
What sort of internet connections are available in this area? Don't do as a friend of mine did, he purchased a block of land and built a house only to find out he couldn't get broadband in his area, which he needed for his job. Ask the questions and make phone calls prior to building.
It is far cheaper to get things installed while you are building the house than try and install them later. If you want additional electrical sockets, internet cabling, pay TV cabling, surround sound cabling or phone cabling get it done as you design the house. Not once the house is built.
Buy a cheap carpet/ rug for the spot directly under the place you park your car. This way all oil leaks will soak into the carpet and not directly onto your new driveway/pavers. Over time you will not have to repave or clean your driveway so often, just replace the carpet as needed.
