If you are used to going away once a year, why not try the latest craze: a staycation. Visit places in your own state that you don't normally get a chance to see. You can still go to a hotel to get away from it all, but think about the savings due to no airfares.
Don't raid the mini bar while on holiday. You know the deal; small products but big prices. On the way from the airport get your cab driver to stop off at a supermarket and pick up some cheap snacks to stock up your mini bar.
