Water Bills Are Killing MeWater_Bills_Are_Killing_Me

Do you dread opening up your bills nowadays? It seems each year prices and fees have been going up and up. This brings me to my water bill! My family has lived in the same house for 5 years. In 2010 we spent $886 on water. This compares to $619 in 2008.

Wow what a jump in prices! Did we install an Olympic-sized pool or take 50 minute showers in 2010 vs 2008. No in fact, would you believe in 2010 we used less water than 2008. On average in 2008, we used 439 litres vs 379 litres in 2010. This is a 60 litre a day drop or as a percentage 13.80%.

As you could imagine this is quite a shock. Less water but our total yearly bill is $267 higher. That's an average increase of 19.6% a year! But what does a 19.6% increase mean if we run this out a further 10 years. Well in 2020, the amount we would be paying for the same amount of water as 2010 would be approximately $4476. That's a big water bill!

But just to shock you even further! This is working it out on the 2010 usage of 379 litres a day; what about if we had stayed at the 2008 usage of 439 litres? Well our bill in 2010 would have been approximately $1026, a 65% increase or an average increase of 29% a year.

If we now run this bill out until 2020, we would be sitting around the $13,093. Holy Moly, God help us if our water usage in this time actually went up.

Surely those of you reading this would have the same sort of situation? But what can we do about this going forward.

Well the answer is to cut your water usage. Every litre saved is more money in your pocket.
