Western Australia is a very expensive place to live. And contrary to what some media people say, not everybody is in the lucrative mining sector.
ONE in four West Australians will be unable to cope with price increases to essentials such as food, clothing and transport, a new survey shows. Perth Now has done a great article looking at WA’s problems.
According to the Suncorp Life Confidence Index survey, 241,000 West Australians are living "hand to mouth" and are struggling from one pay to the next with little or no savings.
The survey measures West Australians’ ability to cope with job loss, rising petrol prices, rising power charges and essential living expenses.
It coincides with the release today of the Australian Bureau of Statistics' quarterly CPI figures, which measure the rising cost of living across the country.
“What is particularly concerning is that 253,500 West Australians believe they would be unable to cope with any general living price increase within their current household budgets,” Suncorp Life’s Chief Financial Officer, John O'Farrell said.
On a state by state basis, West Australians and Queenslanders are the least confident in the nation, while South Australians are the most optimistic.
The survey also found 266,000 West Australian households would struggle financially if other household bills increased.
